For events of all sizes, including Zero Waste Event Kits

SO,
you say you want to
do more for the environment
but don’t have time and
aren’t sure
what you can DO?

Each month, we feature a new campaign and show you, week by week, the simple things you can do every day to reduce environmental pollution, save our dwindling natural resources, and have a healthy, eco-conscious lifestyle.

With campaigns like Sticking it to Styrene (the puffy white stuff commonly referred to as “Styrofoam”) and Saying Goodbye to Paper Coffee Cups Forever, to How to Kick the Bottled Water Habit and Ending Your Addition to Plastic Bags, we’ll show you how you can help preserve our dwindling natural resources, reduce the pollution caused by our production, consumption and disposal habits, and make the best use of the products we do use and buy.

The Unregulated World of Cosmetics and Resources for Finding Products Free of Harmful Chemicals

Week 2: Handy guides for non-toxic brands and products

Until Congress and the FDA step up regulation, it’s up to us to protect ourselves from harmful chemicals. Fortunately, there are some great resources online to help us decipher those unpronounceable ingredients.

Read the full message for great online resources, printable pocket guides and more ways to take action, including how to e-mail your congressperson about cosmetics regulation in under a minute.

Week1: The Ugly Truth About Cosmetics

Each day, we’re exposed to chemicals in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat. They’re all around us. But did you know that we’re also slathering them all over our bodies?

The average U.S woman uses at least 12 beauty products daily—the average man about 6—and each one contains at least 12 chemicals. The products we lather up, rub in, spray on or otherwise apply to our bodies, like shampoos, lotions, makeup, deodorant, aftershave, hair products, etc., are packed with ingredients that are unregulated and untested for safety.

Read the full message here, and check out Annie Leonard's Story of Cosmetics.

Next week, we’ll share resources for how to keep yourself and your family safe from harmful chemicals found in cosmetics.
